HERBERT ALLEN GILES He was born in Oxford on 18th December 1845 He was the fourth son of John Allen Giles He went to Peking, and having passed the competitive examination for a Student Interpretership in China at 1867. He died in 1935 Giles and China Just like what he said in his book China and Chinese he really like Chinese culture and that was the motivation for his study life in Bei Jing. He had translated countless ancient Chinese books that made the foreigner know more about China,so we should thank him for his great contribution to the spread of Chinese culture .
