Objectives describes a learning outcome Objectives should be precise. Objectives should be feasible. Achieving the objective will help to reach the goal. Cause and Effect Relationship between Goals and Objectives 2.1 Formulating Goals KASA Framework K Formulating Goals Awareness: what students need to be aware of when learning a language (self-knowledge, how language works, other use of language etc.) Formulating Goals Stern’s(1992) framework Proficiency: what students will be able to do with language (mastery of skills, ability to carry out functions) Cognitive: including explicit knowledge, information, and conceptual learning about language (grammar) and about culture (rules of conduct, norms, values). Affective: including positive attitudes about target language and culture as well as to one’s own learning of them. Transfer: learning how one learns in the classroom can be transferred outside classroom Eg. Goals for Advanced Composition Course Proficiency: Students will develop effective skills transferable to any context Cognitive: Students will gain an awareness of the influence of social cultural issues on their writing 3. Affective: students will develop confidence in their ability to write in English Students will develop an appreciation for the contribution to their knowledge and experience and makes to the learning process 4.
