Overview of CIS Mission Introductions Judy White Career Services Center described her roll with getting internships or jobs for the CIS department. They use College Central service, a free manner to list a job on our campus for employers. A class is offered to cover the issue of insurance liability for the employers. Fariba invites members to be continued members. The CIS group developed a new course in Adobe Flex and a new certificate in Medical Coding and Billing as well as offering our entry level courses CIS 4 and 1 in Macintosh. Proposed certificates: Alternate Media Specialist Certificate Alternate Media Specialist Certificate: a joint venture between Disabled Student Center and CIS classes. A point person who can provide material in the format required. Not many programs teaching this and yet there is a need for this because educational centers all require this. At this point SMC is at market research point to build a curriculum: assistive technologies course and a course in creating alternate media and accessibility websites design course (hands on). The board endorses this, specifically Wayne. He runs AT Center at CSUN and there is no training in this field. Wayne believes it is a necessary program because of the high demand for these positions. Training developers from the beginning would be best. Software Specialist Certificate will have options, and we will put accessibility course in the core required classes.
