Do not categorise them at this point, you could revisit some of these as you explain each of the 8 wastes that follow this slide * Background Taiichi Ohno (February 29, 1912 - May 28, 1990) is considered to be the father of the Toyota Production System, also known as Lean Manufacturing. Taiichi Ohno defined the 7 types of waste that describe all activity that adds cost but not value.? In a Lean Enterprise these 7 types of “Muda” (waste) are the target of an endless pursuit of waste elimination.? In GKN we work on the principle that there are 8 Wastes. Learning to see waste all around you is the key to starting out on your journey of transforming your organization into a Lean Enterprise. * Waste of overproduction is producing more than is required, or producing faster than needed. Examples would be producing 500 when the customer needs 450, or running components at a much faster rate than the assembly, if the component line supports only that assembly line. * Can you give me some characteristics of overproduction? By characteristics, we mean if you were walking around the plant or in an office, what would overproduction look like? What would you see and what are the results of producing too much too fast. * Why do we want to overproduce? This is a list of some causes of overproduction.
