The essential reason why we need sleep As we all know, adults need 7 to 8 hours sleep at night, and adolescents need about 10. We grow sleepy due the signals from our body telling our brain we are tired, and signals from the environment telling us its dark outside. The rise in sleep inducing chemicals, like adenosine and melatonin, send us into a light dose that grows deeper. Making our breathing and heart rate slow down and our muscles relax. Ⅱ. Facts about sleep you probably didnt know 1. When we lose sleep, learning, memory, mood, and reaction time are effected. 2. Staying awake can cause serious bodily harm. Sleeplessness may cause inflammation, hallucination, high blood pressure, and its even been linked to diabetes and obesity. 3. Studies show that chronically sleeping fewer than 6 hours a night increases stroke risk by 4.5 times, compared to those getting consistent 7 to 8 hours of shut-eye. 4. For others, losing shut-eye can result in hormone imbalance, illness, and extreme cases, death. In 2014, a devoted soccer fan died after staying awake for 48 hours to watch the World Cup. 5. Less sleep can lead to unethical behaviors, like lying, stealing, cheating. 6. Pulling an all-nighter ? (强逼自己通宵?) 7. Without sleep, you might forget as much as 40% of what you were trying to learn. 8. Even one night of lost sleep can make you skin dry, making lines and wrinkles more apparent. 9.
