The single-subject multiple baseline design was employed to evaluate treatment progress. Results indicated treatment gains specific to trained items while generalization to untrained probe types was insignificant. The observed outcomes were consistent with previous findings that severe semantic deficits restricted the outcomes of SFA treatment. Cross-study comparison also revealed the facilitative role of better preserved access from phonological input to the semantic system in response to SFA treatment. Additionally, the mechanism behind SFA treatment was explored in relation to the patient’s treatment outcomes. 3
