The teaching material which I am going to talk about is Unit12 Great men and women section one 《A little man with great ideas 》.The main aim of this unit is to learn how to describe a person. Learning this passage can help students achieve this aim, and it can also help students enlarge their vocabulary. Before this part, we have known something about some great people in Listening of this unit and learned some adjectives and useful expressions to describe a person in Speaking of this unit. So students have had a general impression of this unit, but it is not enough. They also lack some reading skills and their speed is not fast enough. According to this situation, I want to set three aims for this lesson. Cognition objective Students will know something about the appearance and character of Deng Xiaoping Ability objectives Develop the students’ ability of comprehending the whole text by reading the passage, listening to and talking about the story of Deng Xiaoping. Improve students’ reading skill and speed. Emotion objective Know the differences between public figures and great people and learn about what great people are really like, lead students to respecting great people, try to make themselves more excellent. Teaching Important Points: Try to understand the passage, grasp some new words and expressions. It can enlarge students’ vocabulary. Teaching Difficult Points: 1. How to improve the students’ reading skill and speed . 2. How to view the great people and how to describe.. This is the main aim of this unit. I’ll use three teaching methods in this lesson. 1. Teaching in an enlightening way. 2. Teaching by using Multi-media equipment. 3. Students-centered method. Teaching process: Step 1 Greeting and lead-in Show students some pictures about great people, ask students who they are. Then ask students “Who is the greatest person in your mind ?
