Daimler Trucks at a Glance. Edition IAA 2012. 2 | | 1 In 2011 we once again gained the top position among global truck producers in terms of sales of medium-duty and heavy-duty trucks. Daimler Trucks is now well on the way to reaching its targets for 2012. However, an increase in sales and an operational profit that is at least on last year‘s level are only intermediate steps on the way to our goal: average target returns of eight percent throughout the business cycle. After all, the debt crisis and the developments of recent months have made one thing clear: The truck business is still a cyclical one. We can therefore be proud of the fact that our Global Excellence strategy has significantly decreased our vulnerability to such ups and downs. The global scope of our business and the products we have developed for specific markets have also contributed to this strength. A look at the most recent highlights illustrates this fact. Through our new Mercedes-Benz Actros we‘ve significantly raised the bar for long- distance freight transport. And through the Actros‘ ?brother,“ the Antos, we are catching up in the short-distance delivery business. Fuso is offering the new Canter Eco Hybrid, the first hybrid truck in which this expensive technology pays off in terms of lower operating expenses. We are also forging ahead in the area of powertrains through our new platform for medium-duty engines. We are the first manu- facturer in North America to offer engines, axles, and powertrains from a single source under our Detroit brand. In the area of ?green“ technologies, our North American model series have been certified as compliant with the strict GHG14 standard — one year before this standard becomes mandatory. Our growth strategy in the new markets is also making good progress. We opened our BharatBenz production plant in India in April, and our joint venture with Foton in China has been in operation since the middle of this year. Best regards, An
