Section 1.1 Library of electrostatic modules
1.1.1. General
The present library of fourteen computational MATLAB modules was compiled during 2004-
2012. It is devoted to electrostatic problems and is intended for education and basic research
purposes. The education applications imply electrical and biomedical engineering and physics
including, but not limited to, the following undergraduate and introductory graduate classes:
- Physics, specifically Electrostatics
- Physical Principles of the Electrical Engineering
- Electromagnetics
- Introduction to Semiconductor Devices
- Computational Methods of Electromagnetics
- Bioelectromagnetics
- Electric Safety and Power Management
The following topics are covered:
i. Capacitance of arbitrary 3D conductor/dielectric spatial configurations
involving simple objects – a circle, plate, sphere, cylinder, and a brick;
ii. Self-capacitance, capacitance of two arbitrary conductors, capacitance of three
arbitrary conductors;
iii. Conductors and dielectrics in an external DC electric field;
iv. Conducting human body subject to a DC electric field or to an applied DC
voltage, self-capacitance of a human body;
v. Conducting human body in the presence of other charged conductors;
vi. Electrostatics of a semiconductor pn-j
