Meditation on the Moon by Aldous Huxley Part 3 How many sorts of figures of speech used in the Meditation on the moon? Parallelism As we all know parallelism is a very important rhetorical skill in writing so as this article. We can know from some parts of the essay. For example, nothing but sex, that nothing but economics! And the no less intolerant nothing but spirit, nothing but consciousness‘ (paragraph1) Personification For using personification the author aim in giving the readers a vivid feeling of the dim light of night under the moonlight. Here some words chose from the article: night is struggling to wake , blinded garden dreams so vividly of its lost colors, Does the oasis lie there below ….. Struggling, blinded garden dreams, oasis lie…all of these words give us a kind of feeling that all of those things under moonlight are alive. Innuendo In this article another notable rhetorical aspect is innuendo which was reflected by Socrates and Lawrence’ words. Here are some parts from the article: “Socrates was accused by his enemies of having affirmed, heretically, that the moon was a stone. He denied the accusation. All men, said he, know that the moon is a god, and he agreed with all men. ” “The evidence for its stoniness and against its radiuminess may be found in any childrens encyclopaedia. ” Description If you read this essay carefully you will notice some sparks of environment describing. Yes, we can feel that kind of beautiful which the author written: “And not only full, but also beautiful. And not only beautiful, but also...” from the part below. “Outside my window the night is struggling to wake; in the moonlight, the blinded garden dreams so vividly of its lost colors that the black roses are almost crimson, the trees stand expectantly on the verge of living greenness.
