【练习】一句多译:“小明是我班最高的学生”。 Key: ① Xiao Ming is the tallest student in my class. ② Xiao Ming is taller than any other student in my class. ③ Xiao Ming is taller than any of the other students in my class. ④ Xiao Ming is taller than the other students in my class. ⑤ Xiao Ming is taller than anyone else in my class. ⑥ No other student is as tall as Xiao Ming. 11.They are hollow, which makes them very light. 竹竿是中空的,这使得它很轻巧。 which引导的非限制性定语从句,既能对前句中的名词进行补充,也能说明前面整个句子。 She heard a terrible noise, which brought her heart into her mouth. 她听到一个恐怖的声音,吓得心脏都快跳到嘴里。 The weather turned out to be very good, which was more than we could expect. 结果天气很好,这超出了我们的预料。 Carol said the work would be done by October, which personally I doubt very much. 卡罗说十月份能完工,我个人对此持怀疑态度。 【辨析】which和as都能引导非限制性定语从句,二者的用法如下: (1)当主句和从句的语意一致时用as,反之用which。 He made a long speech, as was expected.他做了冗长的演讲,这一点大家都料到了。 He made a long speech, which was unexpected.他做了冗长的演讲,这出乎大家的意料。 (2)当非限制性定语从句为否定句时,常用which引导。 Tom drinks a lot every day, which his wife doesn’t like at all. 汤姆每天喝大量的酒,这是他太太很不喜欢的。 (3)which引导的定语从句一般放在主句后,as引导的定语从句放在主句之前、之后均可。 As everybody knows, Chongqing is a very beautiful city. 人人都知道重庆是一个美丽的城市。 (4)当as在定语从句中作主语时,后面常接下列句型:as is known, as is said, as is reported, as is announced等。 As is know to all, Mr.Wang is a good teacher.众所周知,王老师是一位好老师。 (5)as 引导的定语从句要译为“像……一样”,而which引导的非限制性定语从句则译为两个并列句。 As we all expected, he succeeded in passing that important exam. 像我们期待的那样,他成功地通过了那个重要的考试。 The sun, which rises from the east, is red.太阳是红色的,它从东方升起。 12.In warm countries, many people have their houses made almost entirely of bamboo, the walls, the roof, and the floor. 在气候温暖的国家,许多人家的房子,包括墙、屋顶和地板都是用竹子做的。 have sth.done请人做某事(强调使某事予以处理) Why don’t you have your hair cut? 你怎么不理发呢?
