Something about the author
Jane Eyre is a very famous book around the world. It was written by Charlotte Bronte. Charlotte Bronte was one of the great female novelists in the 19th century English literature, who was famous for her great novel Jane Eyre. Charlotte Bronte was born in Yorkshire, England on April 21, 1816. It was a time when women and the poor were oppressed and unequally treated. She was the third girl of the family. Her father was a clergyman. Her mother died in 1821, and the 4 sisters were sent to Cowan Bridge, a boarding school for clergymen’s daughters. After the two elder sisters, Maria and Elizabeth, died of tuberculosis, Charlotte and Emily were brought home. Several years later, Charlotte became a teacher and then a governess. But she was disappointed with governess work, so she became a writer. Charlotte’s works were all about the struggle of an individual consciousness toward self-realization, about some lonely and neglected young women with a longing for love.
Jane Eyre’s Story
This is a story about a special and unreserved woman who has been exposed to a hostile environment but continuously and fearlessly struggling for her ideal life. The story can be interpreted as a symbol of the independent spirit.
