On students’ self-improvement in reading ability 摘 要:随着新一轮英语教学改革的发展和深入,教育改革者、教师、学生更加注意英语阅读在英语学习和教学中的作用。为了推进英语素质教育改革的进一步发展,增强教育的实用性。本文着重强调英语阅读的重要性和培养英语阅读的能力、技巧、方法的必要性。主要论述如何帮助学生培养、发展、提高学生自主提高阅读能力的能力。 Abstract: With the development of teaching revolution, reformers, teachers and students pay more attention to English reading. In order to promote the development of English teaching and pursue the quality of English education, this essay emphasizes the importance of English reading and it is very necessary to improve the ability and skills and methods of English reading. It is mainly about how to help students to develop and improve reading ability by themselves. Key words: English reading; the ability of reading; skills; methods; topic sentence; I. The importance of English reading At the beginning of the 2000s’, the problem became more and more serious in China that students’ ability of listening and speaking English was very poor. In order to solve this problem, the English teaching reformers began to put priority to the training of listening and speaking skills. But it was unfortunately that “the baby has been thrown out with the bath water”, because what they have done began to change totally the methods and techniques of English teaching; they have gone to the other extreme. Today, more and more emphasis advocated putting on “balanced program of development”. I think we should bear in the mind that English teaching and learning should be regarded as a course of all-round development of the four skills, which refers to listening, speaking, reading and writing. When I say that reading skill is more important for most that Chinese people, I don’t mean that Chinese students need not to learn to listen to English, or speak English. As there is a large amount of written English available, and all kinds of information can be found in those written materials, people must read them in order to get in formation.
