English neologisms and translation Abstract Thanks to the advancement of the science and technology, and the development of society, there are more and more neologisms emerging in English vocabulary. But what is neologism? A neologism is a newly coined word, or a phrase, or familiar word used in a new sense. They are created by following some rules, which called to be the processes of word-formation. As an in dispensable and natural part of language, neologism has been arousing wide interests. Many linguists and scholars have studied this linguistic phenomenon from the perspectives of rhetoric, semantics, pragmatics and sociolinguists. This article, firstly, introduces the present condition of the neologism. Secondly, the body is divided into four parts, including the emerging reasons, the methods of word-formation, the translation and the development part.
