This war was the single greatest calamity to occur in 17 centuries Puritan New England. 1/10 of all men available for military service was killed. The Native American population throughout the Northeast had been significantly reduced by pandemics like typhoid, measles and spotted fever. The war in the south largely ended with Metacoms death.
