The amount of plant material imported from other countries has increased dramatically. As a result, the number of insects intercepted at the various ports of entry in Korea has also increased. Whiteflies present a special challenge to regulatory efforts since they are of economic importance as direct feeders and/or vectors of plant viruses and are often difficult to detect.
