 PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT 3 DESIGN A VISITOR CENTRE FOR LI GARDEN Attraction introduction and location of the Visitor Centre. Brief introduction of Li Garden Aero view of Li Garden Li Garden is a part of Kaiping Diaolou and villages, which is the first world cultural heritage in Guangdong Province. It is located in a small village in Kaiping City and the total area is about 11015m2. Li Garden was a built by an Overseas Chinese American, Mr. Xie Wei Li, around 1926 and finished in 1936.The garden blends harmoniously the elements of Chinese traditional gardening, Southern China water-town style landscaping and Western architecture. The garden is arranged in three main areas: grand garden, mansions and small garden .Each area is carefully separated by man-made canals while connected elegantly by footbridges and pathways. The design of the garden reflects the idea of isolation and integration.The entrance of the grand garden has a stone arched-gate which declares the residency of the Xie family in two large, handwritten characters, “Li Garden”. The grand garden incorporates a walk-in size birdcage, a small pond and a flower pavilion along with various trees and plants. Standing in the grand garden are two steel poles called the “tiger whip” which were built to scare away evil spirits. Location of the Visitor Centre In the Li Garden area, there are only a ticket center and some venders beside the entrance. As a national 4A attraction, it must have a well equipped and functional visitor center to serve the tourists from all over the world. That is why I want to design a visitor center for Li Garden. Suggested location: Beside the entrance of Li garden I think Location 1 and 2 will be an alternative choice to build up a visitor center. 1 2 Reasons: First, Li Garden has only one entrance and exit, visitors flowrate is the biggest; Sencod, Li Garden is not very large only about 11015m2 in total, therefore only one visitor centre is enough. The original ticket centre
