(戏剧的) 一幕 e.g. a one-act play 独幕剧 The hero dies in Act 5, Scene 3.男主角在第五幕第三场死去(2) vi. 行动,表现 vt. 扮演…角色 e.g. It’s time to act. 现在是采取行动的时候了。 He acted quickly and put out the fire. 他行动迅速地扑灭了火。 Who acts (the part of) Hamlet? 谁来扮演哈姆雷特? act as 担任……职务…表演出来;把…付诸行动 Children act out what they read. 儿童常将学到的东西体现于行动。 2. can’t wait to do something 迫不及待地做某事 can’t wait for something 迫不及待地等着某事的到来 e.g. The students can’t wait to know the result of the examination. 他迫不及待地等待着寒假的到来。He can’t wait for the winter holiday. Translation: 我迫不及待地想告诉他这个消息, 给他一个惊喜。 I can’t wait to tell him the news and give him a surprise. 孩子们迫不及待地等待着夏天的到来,到时他们可以到河里游泳。 Children can’t wait for the summer, when they can swim in the river. 3. suppose vt. 以为;猜想;料想;假定 suppose sb. to be + adj. / n. 认为某人是… suppose that…以为,假设 e.g. 1) I suppose him to be the headmaster. = I suppose that he is the headmaster. 2) --- Will she come with us? --- Yes, I suppose so. / No, I suppose not. ( = I don’t suppose so.) 3) Let’s suppose (that) he is telling a lie. 且假定他在说谎吧。 4) Suppose it rains, what shall we do?be supposed to do 应该;应当(相当于should) e.g. 1) Everyone is supposed to wear a seat belt in the car.2) The sports meeting was supposed to take place on Tuesday, but we had to put it off because of the bad weather. 运动会本应该在星期二举行,但由于恶劣的天气,我们不得不推迟。 翻译: 1)他应该按时到那儿。He is supposed to arrive there on time. 2) 你不应当在这儿抽烟。You are not supposed to smoke here. 3) 火车本应该十分钟前就到达的。The train was supposed to arrive ten minutes ago. be supposed to be 被认为是…, 被看作是… Tom is supposed to have stolen money. 有人认为Tom偷了钱。 be supposed to have done 本应该做(实际上没做) You are supposed to have finished your homework yesterday. 你本应该昨天完成作业的。 4. do with 处理,处置(事物); 对待(某人);忍受(常与代词what 连用) He didn’t know what to do with the property his father had left.
