School of Social Sciences and Foreign Languages, Tianjin University, T ianjin 300072, China) Abstract:The sciences of complexity study properties and behavior of complex systems. They have a common methodology. Estab lishing general system theory marks the birth of the sciences of complexity. According to change in their objects of study, the histo ry of the sciences of complexity could be divided roughly into three periods: in the first period, they study being; in the second pe riod, they study becoming; in the third period, they make synthetical studies. In our country, the Qian Xuesen s School makes a greater contribution to the sciences of complexity
