Language and Culture When people talk about dating and romantic relationships in English they often use idiomatic phrases with nuances of commitment. If a person has a date or goes on a date with someone this is not necessarily a particular commitment; it may be a single one-off event or it may be getting to know someone and perhaps the start of something more serious.
