Dictionaries are useful learning tools,but many English words have different meanings and usage.We need to make sure that the definitions we find in the dictionaries match the context. Unit2 Using context. Always use the information around the word and phrase you don’t understand.You can learn new words in this way, or understand what is necessary to complete a task. Unit3 Activating your language learning. Reading is a “passive” activity. To really learn any new language,you need to “use” it actively. For example,after reading, do an “active”task,by using new language in sentences of your own. Unit4 Using what you know. You know more than you think! When you are faced with a task or a situation,use what you know already to help you learn more, or deal with the problem. Unit6 Knowing different styles of English. There are many styles of English: To learn to speak English,read plays and novels that contain spoken language. And to learn to write English, read newspaper articles. Notice the difference. Unit7 Reading with focus. 1Adjust the speed you read according to the amount of detail you need to take in.2 Underline key points as you read. 3 Read faster the second time you read.
