2013 10 STUDY ON BORROWED SCENERY IN ZHUOZHENG GARDEN Zhou Hongjun ABSTRACT/ Focusing on the Borrowed Scenery of Beisi Pagoda in Zhuozheng Garden, this paper firstly analyzes visual composition and spatial structure relevant to borrowed scenery. Then the historic records are collected on the topic of Borrowed Scenery in Zhuozheng G arden, and the change of the object in Borrowed Scenery is studied. Particularly, the unconscious borrowed scenery of the Beisi Pagoda ref lected in Wen Zhengming’s writing and painting is highlighted. Based on Wen Zhengming’s work, the features of the garden in the early period as well as the characteristics of the water system and border are analyzed. Considering the city’s environment in the early period of the pagoda, the great difference of the water and border system between the past and the modern times is interpreted as the main explanation to the unconscious borrowed scenery Besides, the possibility that the conscious to the Borrowed Scenery of Beisi Pagoda and its relevant structure of space evolved in early or middle period of Qing Era is indicated.
