Chinese language as target language in English Chinese translated texts), on the basis of a comparison made bet een translated and nontranslated Chinese texts. The major findings are as follo s: 1) T ranslated Chinese is, unlike hat is expected in the original Chinese, higher in typetoken ratio, and it uses relatively longer sentence segments; 2) translated Chinese demonstrates a strong tendency to expand some constructions load capacity, hich means it tends to cram into a construction more ords than it normally contains. These features, together ith other features specific to translatedChinese do not fully support the hypothesis of translation universals; in fact, much of the difference results from interference ofEnglish source language, and it is the interaction bet een Chinese andEnglish that contrib utes to the unique features of translated Chinese.
