Abstract The high school enrollment rate of China’s urban and rural areas there is a huge gap, and further expand. This gap is likely to lead to a further widening of income gap between urban and rural areas, thereby affecting the healthy development of the whole national economy. In the analysis that led to urban-rural differences in high school enrollment on the basis of economic reasons, to explore the corresponding countermeasures.

Human society is gradually moving from era of industrial economy into knowledge-based economy. In such an era, the role of education to economic growth is evident, according to World Bank estimates, relying on universal education, knowledge expansion, technological progress brought about by such factors as quality of workers formed to improve total factor productivity to economic growth in the contribution in developed countries has reached 49%. At present, China’s urban-rural gap in education significantly constrained the development of education itself, but also greatly reduces the contribution of education to economic growth. In this paper, the use of economics to analyze urban and rural areas lead to high school enrollment rate gap, with a view to narrowing the urban-rural gap in education to find and promote rural economic growth, effective way.
