According to Government statistics, the value of wine import increased 40% from 2010 to 2011 to US$1.25 billion. In support of the robust and growing wine-related business, and to ensure that the quality of the wine being stored and transported is not compromised, in late 2009 Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency launched the Wine Storage Management Systems Certification Scheme. The scheme was the first of its kind in the region, if not the world and has been enthusiastically supported by the industry and the Government. The required standards are comparable to the international practice.
