Unit 1 Greetings (I) Teaching aim: 1. Greetings 2. Words 3. Names 4. Rhythm practice Teaching keys: 1. Greetings: Hi! Hello! 2. Words: monkey, dog, bear 3. Names: Monkey Munchy, Dog Doffy, Teddy bear 4. Rhythm practice: Part 2, Unit. Teaching aid: pictures, tape-recorder, drum and toys. Teaching procedure: Step I. Greetings. 1. Tell the students that this is the first time we meet each other. We should greet each other. Teach the student to greet people with Hello! The answer should be Hello! too. Tell the students to wave hands and look at the person you greet to while greeting. Get the students to say after the teacher for some times. 2. Play a game. Draw two faces on the blackboard. One represents for the teacher. The other represents for the students. When the teacher says Hello in high pitch, the students should say it in low voice. When the teacher says Hello in low voice, the students should say it in high pitch. The one who fails to do it will have one part of the face cleaned. 3. Teacher and students greet each other again in whole. 4. Teacher and students greet each other individually. Then get the students to greet their neighbours. 5. Tell the students how to encourage each other. 6. Divide the whole class into two groups. Mark each group 10 points as a basic score. Tell the students that if you fail to obey the rules in class, such as, talk in class, not listen to the teacher, etc. each time one point will be reduced from the 10 points. 7. Ask the two groups to greet each other. Teacher says in Chinese: Group A, let’s greet Group B. Then teacher says in Chinese: very good. Ask Group B to encourage Group A and Group A encourages themselves. So does Group B. 8. Have a competition in chain. The students in one group greet each other one by one. Remind the students to wave hands while greeting. Teacher times the students. At last every two seconds will become one point. For example, if Group A uses 20 seconds, Group B uses 30 second
