This map highlights the enormous potential for offshore wind electricity generation. The map compares 2004 state electricity consumption to potential generation by offshore wind facilities. The data were focused on shallow waters (less than 20 meters) and within 50 nautical miles offshore. Michigan and Ohio have the potential to generate more than the requisite amount of electricity. As technology develops for deeper waters, estimates for potential generation will increase. * And of course we cant forget the Great Lakes Wind Collaborative. We welcome additional members to our Workgroups; we currently have workgroups for Offshore; Transmission; Economic Development; Wind Atlas; and Environmental Planning, Siting, and Permitting.
