1.1 Lead-in and preparation for reading
Show Ss some pictures of well-known people mentioned in the text
Topics:
What does the word “fame” mean?
Why do people take a lot of trouble to seek fame?
Are there any negative effects that fame might bring about? If so, what are they?
Do you want to be famous? Give some possible reasons?
1.2 Text Structure Analysis
Ss are asked to read the passage as quickly as they can and have a clear understanding of the text structure.
The passage can be roughly divided into six parts:
Part one (Para. 1)
Part two (Paras. 2-5)
Part three (Para. 6)
Part four (Para. 7)
Part five (Para. 8)
Part six (Para. 9)
1.3 Words and phrases
Chase
run after someone or something in order to catch them 追逐;追赶
e.g. The kids chased each other in the garden.

participate in
take part in or become involved in an activity 参加;参与
e.g. Everyone in the class is expected to participate actively in these discussion.

Pessimistic
