China reports 60 H7N9 infections, 13 dead
China on Sunday reported 11 new H7N9 human infections, bringing the total number of such cases around the country to 60. As of Sunday, Shanghai Municipality has reported 24 infection cases after three men were confirmed to be infected with the new strain on Saturday afternoon. Those three men include a 73-year-old man surnamed Zhu, a 54-year-old man, surnamed Song and a 78-year-old man, surnamed Chen. They were all developed symptoms of fever earlier this month and were sent to hospital for treatment.Shanghai Municipal Health Family Planning Commission on Saturday afternoon confirmed that the three were tested positive for H7N9 bird flu virus.
China Q1 GDP growth eases to 7.7%, mild recovery on track
Chinas annual rate of economic growth eased to 7.7 percent in the first three months of 2013, weaker than the market expectation of 8.0 percent. Chinas statistics agency says the slower-than-expected growth is recorded because the government tapped policy brakes, and it will not impact the achievement of Chinas whole year target of 7.5 percent. China recorded a slower-than-expected year-on-year economic growth rate of 7.7 percent in the first quarter of 2013.
Its lower than the 7.9 percent growth in the fourth quarter of 2012.
Sheng Laiyun, spokesman of the National Bureau of Statistics, says Chinas overall economic growth is stable.China is likely to achieve its show year target.
Premier calls for deepened reform
China should promote economic transformation and upgrading through deepened reform while maintaining stable economic
development, Premier Li Keqiang said over the weekend.
Li made the remarks while presiding over a seminar on macroeconomics, foreign trade, finance and real estate attended by entrepreneurs, scholars and industry experts.
