CASE STUDY Case Study Case of home sewing machine assembly factory 1. Current situation of the production line Worker “A” belongs to a production assembly line in a factory. He is making home sewing machines. The composition of the workforce is as follow; Supervisor : 1, Number of workers: 15 Three different models of sewing machine are produced in this factory and the production lot size varies from 500 to 5000 units per month. There is a plan to make the lot size smaller in the future. As product variety increases, the complexity of the manufacturing operation also increases. The assembly process layout for worker “A” is organized of 15 people, and shown as in figure 1 (DATA 4). 2. The opinions of the managers and supervisors about the production line. 1) Manager’s opinion According to the daily work report, the performance rate is 90%, line operation rate is 95%, and the line efficiency which is calculated as returned M.H. over Actual Working M.H is 86%.
