The contributions that African-American make to the U.S.A Definition African Americans are an ethnic group of Americans with total or partial ancestry from any of the Black racial groups of Africa. The term may also be used to include only those individuals who are descended from enslaved Africans. History Contributions Agriculture The role of African Americans in the agricultural history of the United States was extremely important, and given that the majority of blacks were employed in agriculture in the United States particularly during the 19th and early 20th century, represents a major part of their history and the economic progress of the nation. Military World War I During World War I, many African Americans eagerly volunteered to join the Allied. More than two million African American men rushed to register for the draft. over 350,000 African Americans had served with the American Expeditionary Force on the Western Front. World War II Over 1.5 million blacks served in uniform during World War II. They served in segregated units. Famous segregated units, such as the Tuskegee Airmen and the U.S. 761st Tank Battalion proved their value in combat. Music African-American music is one of the most pervasive African-American cultural influences in the United States today and is among the most dominant in mainstream popular music. Hip hop, RB, funk, rock and roll, soul, blues, and other contemporary American musical forms originated in black communities and evolved from other black forms of music, including blues, doo-wop, barbershop, ragtime, bluegrass, jazz, and gospel music.
