The solid state reactions of CuCl ⋅2H O and glycine or salicylaldoxime 2 2 Lixu Lei Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Southeast University, Nanjing 210096, China Email: lixu.lei@ Abstract This paper reports the coordination reactions of CuCl ⋅2H O and glycine or 2 2 salicylaldoxime in the solid state at room temperature. The reaction of CuCl ⋅2H O and 2 2 glycine produces different products when the starting solid materials are mixed in 1:1 and 1:2 molar ratio; but the reaction of CuCl ⋅2H O and salicylaldoxime (HSO) produces 2 2 solely Cu(SO)2, no matter how the starting materials are mixed. Interestingly, it is found that glycine presents three sorts of behaviors under the given conditions: (1) it can unidentately coordinate to copper (II) with its ionized carboxylate oxygen, when the starting solid materials are mixed in 1:1 molar ratio (ligand to copper); (2) it can turns out to be a bidentate ligand when the materials are mixed in the 1:2 molar ratio (ligand to copper), (3) it acts as a Brφnsted-Lawry base to accept a proton in the 1:2 reac
