The land available for crops farming is relatively limited. Nevertheless, British farmers produce enough food to supply two thirds of the needs of population of over 62 million(2010). The British agricultural industry is one of the most efficient in Europe because only 1.7% of the population is engaged in agriculture. Because of some limiting climate factors, wheat has to be imported. Britain’s main cereal (谷类作物) crop is barley(大麦). The other significant crops are potatoes, sugar beet(甜菜), kale(甘蓝) and beans. Horticulture (园艺作物) is a very important part of Britain’s farming economy(10% of the output value). British Livestock Cattle, sheep, pigs, and poultry（家禽） are the important livestock industries. The heads of cattle, sheep and pigs have greatly increased. As a result, the UK doesn’t import significant amount of poultry productions.
