Graduate University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100080) AbstractBlock lossy image compression often introduces quantization noise which exhibits block artifact in the reconstructed image especially when the compression ratio is high. This paper introduces a deblock algorithm using space domain adaptive filtering. The algorithm uses an edge-adaptive filter to smooth the block edges of the image to alleviate the block artifact. The uniform blocks of the image is detected using a variation-based method and is smoothed using a neighbor block-relied filtering method. Experimental results show that the block artifact is alleviated effectively while PSNR is improved in the objective respect.
