These p rop erties endue the cym ba l hyd rop hones m ade of PL ZT u sua lly w ith stab le p erfo rm ance bu t low er rece iv ing sen s itiv ity. In o rder to im p rove the sen sitiv ity, th rough a static ana ly s is on hydrop hone w e d id som e changes fo r the PL ZT hydrop hone by reduc ing the rad iu s of the p iezoe lec tric ceram ics and sea ling its boundary. Fu rtherm ore, AN SYS s im u la tion s w ere m ade, and the exp erim en ts for the im p roved PL ZT hydrop hone and the o rig ina l one w ere carried ou t in w a ter p oo l. The resu lts show tha t the rece iv ing sen s itiv ity of the im p roved cym ba l hyd rop hone m ade of PL ZT is 3 - 4 dB h igher than that of the o rig ina l, and that the frequency resp on se still keep s f la t w ith in 18 kH z band.
