Abstract The model of a Francis turbine blade has been created by making use of reverse engineering
method. The blade modeling procedures with reverse-engineering software, i.e. Geomagic Studio, were
presented in this paper. Thereby the 3D model of a Francis turbine blade was yielded, and the measurement
results prove that the model tallies with actual blade successfully. Through utilizing 3D modeling software
to analyze the model, some useful geometric or mechanical parameters can be obtained, such as the shape
and curvature of the blade, moment of inertial and so on, and these parameters could be the basis for the
optimization, study and maintenance of turbine blade.
