If children want to do well in school, parents should limit the hours of watching TV programs and movies. It rarely surprises us any more that TV programs and movies serve as the main source of our happiness and relaxation. However, more often than not, hordes of people are likely to go to extremes to hold that entertainment time spent with TV should undoubtedly be limited in order to promote children’s performance in school. Perhaps there is an element of truth in their argument, but I, without hesitation, advocate that parents are by no means supposed to restrict the TV and movie time for their children. Opinion polls from around the world reveal, astonishingly, that numerous people, ever since their childhood, have linked watching TV or movies with a waste of time. They disregard the importance of these modernized entertainment media, quite unconscious of the fact that TV programs and movies are surely to benefit children in more ways than one. First and foremost, what never ceases to enthrall me is that children can acquire knowledge of various sorts from TV programs and movies. To start with, school children are likely to find the source of information on TV to satisfy their curiosity about the world around them. For example, when children watch the educational TV programs, such as The Discovery Channel, they are bound to get to know how the universe works, how life starts, and how we can get along with the nature. Besides, young children are inclined to absorb the scientific knowledge from movies in a casual way. For instance, when watching the famous movie The Day after Tomorrow, the curious children, without doubt, can find it easy to understand the balance between human beings and the nature. Therefore, there is no denying that by watching TV and movies, children will, to a great extent, enrich their knowledge and broaden their horizon to promote their performance in school.
