Oil enters thru the small hole shown, then travels thru the groove and surrounds the bearing. The new feed slots in the bearing then allow the oil to enter into the bearing. * After lubricating the bearing, the oil returns thru the drain line to the oil separator/sump. There are new passages cast in the bearing mount that allow the oil return from the inner passages. * Showing the location of the original oil tank design. Note components and oil return lines. Lifetime filter, eductors, sight glasses, etc. * Discuss the components seen on the cover of the new oil tank design. The tank itself is new, being of larger 9 gallon capacity and it is a vessel fabricated by Trane. The old oil tank used was actually a purchased “water heater” component, cut in 1/2 to provide a tank. The regulator/filter block assembly is unchanged from the previous design. The tank heater and temp sensor well is unchanged. The tank is bolted to the foot of the condenser, seen on the left side. * Viewed is the opposite side of the motor cover discussed in the previous slide. The motor shaft passes thru the cover and drives the oil pump. Note the key used to drive the components. The oil pump is a positive displacement gear type pump the same as the previous design. However, it is now placed in the machined cover as seen above. The inside oil pump gear is mounted directly on the motor shaft by a key. The inside gear engages the outside gear, which rotates in the housing that also supports the rear motor bearing. Oil is trapped between the gears and is moved. The pump has inlet and outlet ports that are cast into the port plate housing (no
