English Abstract Abstract Language is the most important tool for human communication, and vocabulary is among the most important component closely connected with social life and reflecting all the most sensitive part in society. Chinese neologisms are the words or phrases with new meanings or new structures or both in language uses in recent years. In the process of language uses, generally there will involve a conventionalization, Chinese neologisms are no exception. Therefore, in this thesis we focus our study on the provisional uses of Chinese neologism, in the hope of a better understanding of its dynamic essence in cognitive processes. Up to today, researches on Chinese neologism have been launched for a long time and there are voluminous works and papers have been published, however, of most scholars the researches all center on its classification ，meaning interpretation and the level of normalization, consequently, little attention is paid on comprehensive interpretation for the motivation of word-formation, let alone the questions that how do neologisms acquire their new meanings or functions, or that how do speaker/listener(reader/writer) understand neologisms without much efforts. The scope of neologism analysis in this paper is confined to the period from 1980s to present-day. The methodology in this paper is the adoption of combining static and dynamic, macro and micro, descriptive and interpretative. Conceptual Blending Theory ，the supporting theory in this thesis ，is first brought forth by Fauconnier in 1985, which provides a unified theoretical framework in studying the cognition processes of languages.
