Effectiveness of azithromycin for preventing bronchopulmonary dysplasia in preterm infants : a systematic review Abstract: Objective: The aim of the study is to assess the effectiveness and safety of azithromycin for preventing bronchopulmonary dysplasia （BPD ）in preterm infants.The purpose is to provide reference for clinical mediation of BPD. Methods: Firstly ，the searching strategy was established.Then the electronic searches were conducted to retrieve Randomized Controlled trials （RCTs ） from The Cochrane Library ，Pubmed ，Embase ，China Biological Medicine Database （CBM ），Chinese Journals full-text Database （CNKI ），Chinese Technological Journals Database （VIP ）and Wan Fang Digital Journal Full-text Database by free texts and Medical subject headings till December 2012. Conference proceedings were searched ，and all references in all included trials were searched ，too. All published trials utilizing random or quasi-random patient allocation in which treatment with azithromycin was compared with placebo or no treatment to prevent BPD in preterm or low birth weight infants were included. The risk biases of the RCTs were assessed. Two reviewers extracted and cross checked data independently. Statistical analysis was performed by fixed effect model or random effect model of Meta-analysis using Revman 5.1 which 3 offered by Cochrane. Result: A total of 2 trials involving 328 preterm infants were included.
