第八章:景点牌解说翻译Group1、2翻译1. 大英博物馆有关中国整体形象的牌示解说 China The Chinese have created the single most extensive and enduring civilization in the world. Their language, spoken and written in the same forms over nearly four thousand years, binds their vast country together and links the present with the past, expressing a unified culture unmatched elsewhere. In contrast, the land of China is one of great geographical diversity. Bordered by mountains, steppes and deserts, the immense central plains are watered by great rivers, supporting a dense population, a large part of which has always been tied to the land, but which has also proved itself extraordinarily skilled in the production of material goods of a high standard. In spite of the vast size of the country, and the periodic eruptions of social unrest within or invasion from outside, China’s rulers have always sought a single, strong, and unified state administered by an educated elite. The bonds of society have been held in place by language, the wide distribution of the products of the arts and manufacturing. Group3、4、5翻译2. 大英博物馆中的中国馆景泰蓝陈列牌示解说Cloisonné enamels are glass pastes in powder form dissolved in water and applied to metal vessels. To keep the different colors separate strips of metal or ‘cloisonné’ are stuck on to the metal base to form little walls or enclosures. When the glass pastes have been applied the metal vessel is heated so that they melt. This process is repeated several times as the glass paste contracts on heating. When each section is full to overflowing the whole vessel is polished to reveal the ‘cloison’ walls which are then glided. The technique was probably carried across Central Asia from Byzantium through the Caucasus in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries when the Mongols dominated Asia. Showy and ostentatious Cloisonné enamels fulfilled a desire for large, bright and shiny vessels for use in palaces and temples. Many of the vessels were made in shapes associated with Buddhist ritual.
