The characteristic of its melanin is similar to that of the standard melanin (Sigma). After exposed to UV source, its survival rate was 17 times high than that of the Bt strain that can’t produce melanin. Without melanin, the crystal insecticidal protein treated with UV was decomposed easily by protease and the toxicity of formulation reduced quickly. It showed that the melanin of Bt 7601 is an excellent UV protective agent to the crystal insecticidal proteins.
