Chinese style of crossing road Hangzhou has begun imposing fines as high as 10 yuan on?jaywalkers?as part of a trial campaign meant to stop people from crossing roads at the wrong times and places. This reporter discovered that under such strict enforcement, pedestrians have begun abiding by the rules a lot. However, a small minority of pedestrians continue to disregard the rules as before, with even multiple instances of unwilling-to-be-fined pedestrians attacking and verbally abusing traffic police, and a number of people being arrested as a result. Chinese style of crossing road refers to large crowds of Chinese people crossing roads, no matter whether the traffic light is green or red. Indeed, the phenomenon of pedestrians running the red light is commonly seen in some cities. It is very dangerous that pedestrians scramble for roads with cars in crowded downtown areas. Chinese style of crossing road became a hot public discussion topic . Beyond doubt,“ Chinese style of crossing road ” reflects the deep-rooted belief that the law will not punish numerous offenders(法不责众). In the fast-paced(快节奏) life, some people lack of safety awareness and cannot wait for the green light. Therefore, the group effect takes shape and some basic regulations have been thrown aside. However, we should analyze the reasons for running the red light comprehensively, instead of blindly blaming low quality of the public. The pedestrian’s crossing roads with a disregard to traffic lights is related to the unscientific planning of urban transport, short green light and unbalanced relationship between pedestrians and cars. Moreover, the design of traffic lights in big cities is friendlier to automobiles. For example, when red light, automobiles are allowed to turn right, this inevitable conflict with pedestrians.
