Abstract D. H. Lawrence was an excellent writer of the first thirty years in the twentieth century. He has been one of the most controversial writers of the British modern literature until now. Being his last novel, Lady Chatterley s Lover’ had a mixed reception in the literary criticism circles. It happened that there was a similar case. The famous dramatist Cao Yu of our country had also been a controversial one for his radical thoughts and works in the past time. His first work Thunderstorm was deeply influenced by May 4th Movement and left-wing drama. Its heroine Fanyi was amazingly similar to Connie of Lady Chatterley s Lover’ in many aspects. This paper, based on the stories of Connie and Fanyi, deals with the similar personality, abnormal life, indifferent society, forbidden love and unknown future of them. Through a comparative study on them, with Sigmund Freud’s personality structure theory as the theoretical guidance, the thesis aims to review the two significant characters with a new angle, analyzing the deep thoughts of the two writers. This thesis has revealed the points as follows: First, the rebellions of Connie and Fanyi are caused by both internal and external factors, which are amazingly similar. Unlike the so-called traditional women, both of them have straightforward nature and rebellious character. Though being rich ladies in upper-class families, they are not loved by their husbands and living abnormal lives. The relationship between the personality and life is quite unharmonious.
