新课标模拟一

2015高考全国新课标卷模拟测试卷 A William Shakespeare(1564---1616)was the brightest star in a great age of theater. From the late 16th to the early 17th century, dozens of playwrights wrote dramas that played in London theaters to enthusiastic audiences.Shakespeare was by no means the only writer at work, but his talent outshone his rivals. He had a different social background from other writers for the theater. Many of them had come from universities.Shakespeare,in contrast, was born in Stratford in the Midlands. He made his way to London in the 1580s and initially worked as an actor.Soon, however,he was producing plays and his company, the King’s Men,was winning the esteem both of the court and the public. It was his tragedies for which he became most famous. The greatest are Hemlet,King Lear,Othello, and Macbeth.Their stories are so rich that it is difficult to reduce them to one theme.King Lear is a play in which Shakespeare takes an unflinching look at the pitilessness of the world.King Lear thinks he depend on the loyalty of his children. All but one of them take advantage of him with the result that the elderly man is left to the mercy of the fate.Shakespeare thought that society was becoming more and more cruel. This cruelty is also evident in Hemlet,in which a prince is surrounded by people with no loyalty; His uncle Claudius murders his father and marries his mother. Shakespeare is also loved for his comedies.A Midsummer Night’s Dream and As You Like It are plays that combine laughter and magic, but also philosophical themes.Shakespeare is a writer with a wonderful range. He can be devastating,or charming and amusing. It was this range that won him fame and wealth in his day and secured his reputation as one of the greatest of all writers. 21.The underlined word “outshone” in Paragraph 1 can be replaced by _____.
