Correspondent: QIN Guo-peng, E-mail: qinqin 1109 @ 163. com) Abstract GFRP tube filled w ith steel reinforced concrete column consists of an outer tube made from glass fiber reinforced pol mer ( GFRP) , steel reinforcement and inside core concrete. Tests w ere conducted with five specimens to stud their bearing capacit under eccentrical load via a nonlinear anal sis program based on the fiber model. T he effects of strength of concrete, slenderness ratio, eccentricit and percentage of reinforcement on the mechanical properties of the eccentricall loaded columns w ere anal zed, w ith the relevant load-deflection relationship calculated. The results indicated that the bearing capacit of such composite members increases w ith the core concrete strength and percentage of reinforcement but decreases w ith the increasing slenderness ratio and eccentricit . Based on the anal sis of calculated results, the formulae are given to predict the bearing capacit of the composite co
