This year is referred to as the intern year. In this show, the five interns that newly join the Seattle Grace Hospital’s training program are our main characters. At this point, when the internship year has been completed and the intern exam has been passed, the physician may practice as a resident.   And as you can see, she also has boss. Her boss is attending. Derek Shepherd, a neuro surgeon and Preston Burke, a cardio surgeon. Attending is a doctor who has completed their training and is working independently in their specialty. They direct the education of medical students, interns, residents, and fellows.
