Module 1 Wonders of the world the Grand Canyon When I arrived, it was early morning and it was raining. I looked to the east(往东面看) —the sky was becoming grey(阴沉沉的). I got out of(从…出来) the car, went through(穿过…) a gate and walked along a dark path(一条漆黑的小路). There was nothing to see, but I knew it was there. After about a mile(一英里), a stranger appeared (出现)beside the path(在路边). “Am I going the right way?” I asked. He knew where I was going, “yes,” he replied(回答说), “ you`ll get there in five minutes.” Finally, I came to some rocks and stopped. I looked over(从…上面看过去) them, but it was silent(寂静的) and there was no sign of it(看不到它). Suddenly, the rain stopped and the clouds cleared(消散). The sun rose behind me and shone on(照在…上) the rocks. Far below me(退落到…下面), the ground fell away(向下延伸) and down to (下面露出)a river. I was looking across(向…对面看) one of the wonders of the natural world— the Grand Canyon. I looked down to(向…下看;俯瞰) the Colorado River(科罗拉多河), a silver stream(一条银色的溪流) nearly one mile below me. If you put the two tallest buildings in the world on top of each other(互相叠加) at the bottom of (在…的谷底)the canyon, they still would not reach the top. Then I looked across to the other side of(…的另一边) the canyon, It was about fifteen miles away, maybe more. Finally, I looked to my left and to my right, and on both sides (在…的两边)the canyon went far away (延伸…远)for more than 200 miles. The Grand Canyon was not just big. It was huge! I remained (逗留)by (在…旁)the canyon for about half an hour, and I asked myself. “Is the Grand Canyon the greatest wonder of the natural world?” I certainly know(当然知道) the answer. What do you think? M
