The properties of environmentally friendly prepainted steel for appliance in Baosteel is better the others and the products have been used in the appliance successfully. Key words: Environmentally friendly; prepainted steel; appliance; coating; pretreatment 1 Introduction The prepainted steel which is used in appliance began in 1970’.It reached 2.14MT in 2004 in the world(12.3% of the coated steel )（1）. China is one of the manufacture base for household appliance .The products not only have been consumed inland, but also are the OEM of the famous brand in the world .So the household appliance which produced in main land of China have been sold in the supermarket of Europe. After the ROHS announced，the environmentally friendly projects and measures have been investigated by many industries. The prepanited steel if it is used in the appliance must satisfy the ROHS. With the deadline is coming, more and more appliance manufacturer bring up the environmentally friendly requirements on the prepainted steel Baosteel researched and developed prepainted steel for appliance in 1996. (2) But the quality of product surface did not satisfy the customer because of the limitation of equipments in CCL. In the other sides the consumption of prepainted steel in appliance was very low because there were not suitable mould and cutting line. Recently more and more factory began to use prepainted steel in appliance. New lines have been put into production in Baosteel also and are able to produce the product, which has the good surface quality and the coating property.
