Abstract “A rose for Emily” is William Faulkner’s first published short story about the life and the death of Miss Emily Grierson. In Faulkner’s eyes, Emily is “a tradition, a duty and a care” and shows sympathy to Emily. In fact, Emily’s multiple characters determine her tragedy fate.?Born in a declining aristocracy family, she is arrogant and traditional and isolated from the society because of her identity. At the same time, when she falls in love with a northerner, Homer, she is a stubborn woman who just wants to pursuit true love regardless of others’ criticisms. To some extent, she just a pitiful woman and a cried rose.
